Singapore Tiles

I was reading the fabulous Design Files blog a couple of days ago and saw the home of interior designer Sonya Marish.  Sonya runs a business Jatana Interiors that specializes in sourcing rare and antique tiles from around the world.

Seeing the wonderful array of tiles reminded me of some photographs I took in Singapore last year of the most amazing decorative tiles featured on the exteriors of the original colonial buildings.  The colour and pattern elements were stunning - and I loved the mix of pretty floral designs contrasting the geometric structures.

Too cute!

Cute tiles

I bought these tiles a while back from Retro Active in Northcote - I had great ideas of actually putting them onto my wall as decoration, but as with most projects I haven't got round to it yet!

I particularly love the emerald green and olive green hens - soooo cute and as green is my favourite colour I just couldn't resist snapping them up.
They are all English tiles and have a very retro look to them - although I don't know if they are new tiles with a retro look - or if they are original? Most of the tiles have at one stage been on a wall and have clearly been used.....however new or old I love them and will one day get around to doing something with them!

Decorative tiles - London

When I was in London recently I took these photo's in Richmond of gorgeous old blue and white tiles decorating shop fronts. It's lovely to see such beautiful decoration and detail that went into older style architecture - and in such contrast to todays modern (and rather plain) style. Although they are old tiles I think they provide great inspiration for modern pattern creation.
